String Installation Tips

Step 1: Inspect Before You Install

Before setting up your new strings, carefully examine your bow's cams. Make sure there are no sharp edges or burrs around the tracks or cam posts where the strings and cables attach. A rough cam post can easily damage the loop serving of your string or cable during installation. Be especially mindful of cam alignment and any noticeable cam lean during the draw cycle, as this can cause excessive wear on your string servings. Also, take a look at the cable slide. Check that the grooves are smooth and free of imperfections, as rough surfaces can cause premature wear on the cables. Any damage caused by these areas is not covered under the TPA Bowstrings warranty.

Step 2: Proper Press, Proper Care

When installing your TPA Bowstrings, always use a bow press that is approved by the manufacturer. Any damage to the strings or cables resulting from improper installation is not covered by TPA Bowstrings’ warranty and may harm your bow. It's also important to note that TPA Bowstrings cannot be held responsible for any damage to your bow or accessories due to incorrect string or cable installation.

Step 3: Peep Sight Setup

Your new TPA Bowstring comes with a factory-installed peep sight indicator located just above the center serving. Do not remove this indicator before setting up your peep sight. To properly settle the strings, shoot your bow 3-5 times before peep installation. When ready, use a manufacturer-approved bow press to install the peep using the indicator for proper placement. Avoid using a string separator tool, as this can damage the string, which is not covered under the TPA Bowstrings warranty. After the peep is securely in place, you can remove the indicator thread. Always tie or serve in your peep sight before shooting—failure to do so could result in the peep sight coming loose during use. If necessary, adjust the peep alignment by making ½ turn adjustments to the string until it's properly aligned.

Step 4: Fine-Tuning Your Bowstrings

TPA Bowstrings are built to precise specifications, but small adjustments may be required for optimal cam timing, peep alignment, or performance. To fine-tune, add or remove twists in ½-turn increments. For the best results, limit your adjustments to no more than 1-2 twists removed or 4-5 twists added. This helps maintain stability, consistency, and peak performance in your bowstrings.
